About & Rules

In case you’re not familiar, a “Secret Santa” gift exchange is a Christmas tradition in which members of a group organize to get each other gifts. Each member of the group is assigned one other group member to get a gift for. As the title implies, it must be kept a secret who is assigned to whom until gifts are given.So in this event, each participant (writer or artist) will create a gift for the person they are assigned to, and in return they will also receive a surprise gift from another person in the group.This event is being run by Anna (@stans8n on Twitter). I’m a one man show (except @justnaido who made the lovely art for the event ♡) so please afford me some patience when waiting for a response. I do have irl obligations but I promise to respond as soon as I can.This event is NSFW-friendly and therefore only adults may sign-up.This event is also demoncest-friendly. No one is going to be forced to accept a demoncest gift, nor forced to make one. If it’s not your thing, there is an opportunity in the sign-up form to make that clear. I will assign people only to what they’re comfortable with. However, participants are expected to be respectful of one another. If, after this explanation, you feel uncomfortable with the way this event is being handled, please do not apply.I understand it is a very busy time of year and am more than willing to work with you if you have vacations planned or any other thing that may prevent you from meeting check-ins. Please just let me know beforehand not after you’ve missed a check-in as an excuse.This event is open to all skill levels of writers and artists but please check the guidelines for requirements and make sure you can meet them.Please read the following rules carefully.

  • This event is NSFW-friendly and therefore is open to adults aged 18 or older only. NSFW gifts are not required, but the age requirement is a precaution to ensure everyone is comfortable and safe.

  • Joining Discord is a requirement. This doesn’t mean you log in once and then never check it again. All announcements will be posted in discord and it will be the primary avenue of communication for the event.

  • Please refrain from discussing demoncest in the discord server.

  • The gift is supposed to be a secret. You will know who is receiving your gift but please do not reach out to them. If you have any questions for them, let me know and I can do it for you.

  • Do not stream/post/show previews of what you’re working on, on any social media. Please also refrain from guessing who you think has whom or dropping hints. Please maintain discretion.

  • Please take the initiative to send your check-in/status on or by the due dates. Please do not make me chase you down.

  • Anyone unresponsive at the check-in without discussing exceptions (like planned vacations) with me beforehand will be removed and replaced.

  • At the end of the event, once gifts have been sent out, you are free to post the gift you made on social media/your platform of choice. Please refrain from posting the gift you received unless the creator gives you permission.

  • Not a rule but a final note—these rules are subject to change.

Participant Guidelines

There are three sections below. “For Everyone”, “For Writers”, and “For Artists”.For Everyone:

  • There are minimum requirements, but no maximum. If you want to create a five page comic, fully-lined and colored with all 15 characters and the person’s MC, please be my guest. If you want to write a 30k word fic, be my guest. You can always go above and beyond.

  • Please remember this event is open to all skill levels. If you are truly unhappy with your gift, please reach out to me to discuss, but do not insult your gift-giver’s work.

  • With that said, please put in the effort you would like to receive. I truly hope everyone would strive to surpass the minimum requirements.

  • Note that there are two weeks between assignments going out and the check-in. And two weeks between the check-in and the due date. This is a quick turnaround event and the deadline will sneak up on you quickly.

  • Please maintain secrecy! If you need to ask the person you’re creating a gift for a question, let me know and I can ask them for you.

  • If anyone would like a beta reader or art critic, please let me know! But beta reading is not a requirement.

  • In a perfect world, if no one has any emergencies, no pinch hitters are needed, and everyone submits their gifts on time, gifts will be sent out early!

For Artists:

  • The minimum requirement is one of three things: (1) A clean-lined (no sketches), flat-colored, bust of two characters; OR (2) A clean-lined (no sketches), flat-colored, full body of one character; OR (3) A minimum 4-panel comic that must be either clean-lined or colored and include two characters.

  • Image edits & meme tracing are not considered art for the purposes of this event. They may be art in our hearts but they are too low effort for a gift.

  • By the check-in, you need to have at least the lineart or (in the case of a comic with colored sketch) the comic complete without colors.

For Writers:

  • The minimum requirement is a 1000+ word completed fic in English. In spite of the word count you achieve, the fic absolutely must be completed when you’re done. Yes, that means cliffhangers are illegal.

  • If you know beyond shadow of a doubt that you and the person receiving your gift both fluently speak another language, then you may write in a different language other than English. But if you’re not 100%, please stick to English.

  • By the check-in, please have at least 250 words written and a short summary for the rest.

  • Please note that discretion is key. Because of this, completed fics should be submitted via Google docs or pdf. Please refrain from posting on AO3 or any other public platform until gifts have been sent out.

All deadlines/due dates will be 9:00 pm GMT-8.

FAQ

  • Do I have to do a NSFW fic/art? - No. NSFW is encouraged, but not required. SFW is allowed. Everyone likes some good fluff.

  • I am 17 but I’m going to be 18 by Christmas, can I apply? - No. Only adults aged 18 or older may apply.

  • In my country, adults are considered age ((something less than 18)). - That’s nice. If you’re under 18, do not apply for this event.

  • Does the gift have to be Christmas-themed? - No, not at all. There is no theme for the event. Just make something you think the person receiving your gift would like.

  • I don’t celebrate Christmas. May still I participate? - Absolutely!

  • I’m going to be out of town on ((these dates)), can I have an extension? - As long as it’s not the final due date, yes. Please let me know ahead of time and I will work with you. If you’re going to be out when gifts are due, then please complete it early.
